It’s not always necessary to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes it’s enough just to improve on it.
Look in most people’s wardrobes and what you’ll find is a variety of clothing, much of which is gathering dust. But there are also favourites that are worn far more than the rest. In our opinion, these are often, strikingly often actually, either old classic garments, or garments based on old classic styles.
Many of our favourites, like our parka for example, with large sewn-on outside pockets, or our down or synthetically padded quilted jacket, are derived from old military or working clothes, with tried and tested design features. The modern quilted jacket was created in the 1960s, based on the Russian Army winter jacket from World War II. Many other classics like jeans, chinos, the bomber jacket, trench coat etc are also originally older, functional garments. Successful examples of function and beauty go hand in hand.
